The Blumhardt Curatorial Internship: The Blumhardt Foundation & Creative New Zealand
Grant Thompson, 2005 Blumhardt Foundation, Curatorial Intern
This curatorial internship has been developed in order to nurture curatorial interest and expertise in the areas of decorative arts and design.
The first internship was awarded to Grant Thompson in January 2005. A jewellery-maker and lecturer in contextual studies at Manukau School of Visual Arts, Grant Thompson is currently working on the inaugural exhibition for the Blumhardt Gallery which will open in The 'new' Dowse in 2007.
Taking his cue from the life of Doreen Blumhardt, the exhibition will explore the transmission of craft and design knowledge as a form of gift exchange; and the environments in such exchanges occur.
Object rich, the exhibition will feature over a hundred design and craft works from The Dowse Collection, Doreen Blumhardt and private collections.
